Many, many substances makes us feel gooood...
Trouble is - when we don't have them, we go down down down. Many people are suprised to know that almost any 'high' giving substance makes us have a lower low than if we never had it in the first place. For instance pain killers leave us lower than before, so the pain we felt before is now worse & we are less capable of handling it - so we need a higher dose, which leave us even lower etc.
The same is true no matter how 'soft' the drug you are addicted to. Coffee is a classic - it 'picks you up' only to leave you low - especially if you don't have it. Many people with sleep problems can get remarkable results just by cutting out coffee altogether. Be warned though - there is a 'come-down' when you stop using any drug - coffee withdrawels will give you a serious migraine for a few days if you drink it regularly. Stopping alcohol after regular indulgence will cause vomitting, nausea, shakes, lack of sleep and aching - some things are worse too!
Giving up is not always easy either...many methods involve a 'outside in' approach...where as what is really needed is to deal with WHY you drink / drug etc - normally to escape pain or give you a fleeting bit of fun because you are incapable of having real fun. You are trapped with the crumbs off the table of life...
BASICALLY THE FACT THAT YOU ARE HERE MEANS THAT YOU NEED FREEDOM!!
